Community rallies for Coast Guard as families go without pay

ROCKLAND — As the partial federal shutdown continues with no end in sight, the Rockland area is offerings assistance to Coast Guard families who are going without pay.

Rockland City Manager Tom Luttrell said that two Coast Guard families have already sought aid from the city’s fuel assistance program.

Luttrell made a pitch at Monday night’s Rockland City Council meeting for donations to the fuel fund.

The Area Interfaith Outreach food pantry in Rockland has also publicized that Coast Guard families can use its services.

And the Hampton Inn & Suites in Thomaston has posted on its Facebook page its effort to help these families.
